Step 1: count the people, not the drinks
- Just you: the Fieldbar Mini 4L. Work lunches, a round of golf, a solo beach trip.
- Two to four people: the Fieldbar Drinks Box 10L. Picnics, a day at the beach, a boat trip.
- Five or more, or a weekend: the Fieldbar Gin Trunk 24L. Braais, camping, family gatherings.
Step 2: decide how long it needs to stay cold
For a few hours, any Fieldbar will do. For a full day or overnight, choose the Drinks Box or Gin Trunk, which Fieldbar rates for up to 50 hours against the Mini’s 24. More ice and more insulated space means a slower warm-up.
Step 3: check what you will carry
The Mini weighs about 1kg empty and goes where a handbag goes. The Drinks Box is about 1.8kg and still carries easily in one hand. The Gin Trunk is about 4.9kg empty and noticeably heavier when full, so it suits a car boot, boat or campsite more than a long walk. The Mini and Drinks Box can take a Fieldbar Swing Sling for shoulder carry, sold separately.
Step 4: pick a colour
Every Fieldbar comes in named high-gloss colours such as Sea Boat Blue (navy), Bazaruto Blue (turquoise), Orchard Orange, Parisian Green (sage), Racing Green (dark green), Safari White, Oyster Grey, Lobster Red and Espresso Martini (brown), plus limited editions. Step 5: decide on engraving
